Cortney, my doula and birth coach, shared this video a few weeks ago, and it is hilariously true.
One thing I'm curious about is eating the placenta. The word on the street is that it's supposed to be packed full of nutrients and very healthy. The birth center I'm using has brochures about placenta encapsulation. But, I don't think I'm down for that. I mean, I don't think I could stomach liver, let alone my own placenta. A super quick internet search doesn't turn up a lot on the benefits of eating the placenta. So, what are your thoughts on eating the placenta after birth? Has anyone who reads this blog done that? Have you heard of anyone burying the placenta in the yard?
ooooo, I have my own blog label!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can add friend to your wonderful list about me!!! I was that first!!! ;)
Placenta eating...I'm with you, I don't think I could do it. And I feel that turning it into apsules could distroy what ever health benefits there are.
We would have buried it, except we were living in an apartment at the time. We'll be doing that with any babies that come while we're living out here on the mountain.
ReplyDeleteGo for it with eating the placenta! I have lots of friends who've done it. As far as I know, encapsulating it is the easiest way to go (because of storage), and the worst thing that happens is you get some weird-tasting burps. Big whoop.
We have been researching this for our baby, and we are planning on it. Seems absolutely like something you should not ever want to do. However, everyone who has done it says how amazing they feel because of it. So either they are snickering and passing the joke forward, or there is a strong benefit. We can say in a month!
ReplyDeleteAt our last prenatal appointment, our midwife said that about half of her clients do the placenta.
