At 2:30am this morning, she woke me up from a dead sleep. Her whole world had changed overnight. It was obvious in the sounds that came out of her mouth as she tried to stir me. They were brand new sounds I had not heard before. It was new music in the fabric of space and time. She was so fussy. She did not want to do anything. No nursing, no sleeping, and no being held. She wanted to explore.
Stomping her feet a bit, she spent most of the next hour reexamining her toys. Wonder Weeks said that she would be conducting research in order to exercise her new-found perception of categories. That is exactly what she did. I fed her toy after toy, she eating up each one, and then tossing them aside only to holler and twist until I handed her a new one.
At 4am, she finally and happily fell asleep to a dance party in the living room. When we returned to bed, she sweetly stroked my arm until she fell back asleep.
